Green Smoothie recipe

Posted by Jesse van der Velde on

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon finely ground chia seeds
  • 1 scoop protein powder
  • 1 cup bottled water
  • 2 medium sized bananas, chopped
  • ½ cup blueberries (washed)
  • ½ fresh mango, cut into pieces
  • 1 handful of spinach (washed)
  • 1 handful Red Oak Leaf lettuce leaves (washed)

Preparation:

Pour the cup of water into the blender.  Then add the bananas, blueberries (an excellent source of antioxidants) and mango. Tear the spinach and lettuce leaves into bits and add to the blender. Leafy vegetables are very nutritious and full of vitamins and minerals. You could also use other leafy green veggies. Now put in the finely ground chia seeds. You may grind these with a Magic Bullet, but a coffee grinder works just as well. You could even add the whole chia seeds but more nutrients are released when they are ground up. Chia seeds contain a lot of terrific fatty acids, so your smoothie becomes even more nutritious. Finally, spoon in the protein powder. This product is made of sprouted brown rice, which is filling and good for your muscles. Switch on the blender. If the mixture is too thick, pour in some more water. You should be able to get about 1 litre of smoothie after blending. Pour into a glass and enjoy. You could also easily take your smoothie in a flask with you to work.
