Use and dosage

Use a small handful (5-10 grams) of raw Cocoa Nibs daily. One bag of raw Cacao Nibs contains 250 or 500 grams, so one bag can last you up to 100 days, depending on how much you use each day. 

This product is no substitute for a healthy or varied diet.

Allergy information

It is better not to buy raw cocoa if you are allergic to caffeine or other substances which are present in cocoa. Always read the package leaflet before you decide to use raw cocoa.

Can I use this product with health problems and/or medication? Consult your physician before using raw cocoa, especially if you have elevated blood sugar levels or diarrhoea or if you suffer from diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, anxiety disorders or migraines, or if you have a heart rhythm disorder (tachyarrhythmia). Stop eating raw cocoa at least two weeks before you undergo surgery, as it may affect blood sugar levels during or after surgery.

Cacao Nib brownies with cashew frosting - a delicious recipe using cacao nibs

Ingredients

For the brownies

  • 1 cup (100 g) almond flour
  • 1 tbsp (8 g) coconut flour
  • 2 tbsp (16 g) raw cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup (30 g) cocoa nibs
  • ¼ cup (50 g) raw cane sugar or coconut blossom sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • ½ cup (120 ml) almond butter
  • ½ cup (85 g) dark chocolate chips
  • ⅓ cup (80 ml) maple syrup
  • 1 chia or linseed 'egg' (1 tbsp ground chia or linseed mixed with 3 tbsp water)
  • ⅓ cup (80 ml) almond milk
  • 1 tsp natural vanilla extract

 

For the glaze

  • ¾ cup (100 g) unsalted raw cashews
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) almond milk
  • 1 tsp natural vanilla extract

 

For serving

  • 2 tbsp cocoa nibs

 

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 180 C.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine almond flour, coconut flour, cocoa powder, cocoa nibs, raw sugar, baking powder and salt.
  • Melt chocolate chips with almond butter and maple syrup in a small saucepan.
  • Mix the melted ingredients with the dry ingredients in a bowl. At the same time add chia (or flaxseed) 'egg', almond milk and vanilla. Mix until well blended.
  • Line an 18-cm square brownie tin with baking paper. Spread the brownie batter evenly in the tin. 
  • Bake for 18 minutes. Let cool completely.
  • To prepare the glaze, soak the cashews in hot water for 30-40 minutes. Drain well.
  • Blend soaked and drained cashews with maple syrup, almond milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  • Spread cashew glaze over cooled brownies. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons cocoa nibs.
